It started back in early 2011, after a frustrating experience trying to locate some components and parts manufactured by a fellow 3wheelerworld.com member. It occurred to me that some sort of a centralized area and location to put these community manufactured items would be a huge benefit for everyone involved in "small time" manufacturing and reproductions.
The first version of the 3WW Parts Shop - launched in March of 2012. It was primitive, but it solidified the idea and proved the model would work. It launched with about 25 products.
While not exactly a high volume eCommerce store, since the launch of Version 1 of the 3WW Parts Shop the necessity of several significant changes became obvious. A better categorizing method, easier product listing, improved photo quality, easier navigability on mobile devices, and a more thorough invoicing and order notification system were just a few of the things on the top of my list.
I endeavored to make these changes and more in the second iteration. I strongly believe that the 3wheeling community is very unique and special in the fact that we have so many talented people that not only have the ability to see and note the need of products in a market - but the ability to seize on that and fill the market with their own interpretation and way of providing a product that is otherwise not available. To me, Its simple supply and demand capitalism at its most basic and pure roots. But its also a testament to the resiliency and camaraderie us "3wheeler enthusiasts" posses. In what other sport or niche are people manufacturing and supplying products to a market that was forcibly removed 30 years ago?
In addition to the community manufactured and sourced products, I found it important in this next step to supply quality used parts by the membership to new people and those just needing a quick replacement part outside of the conventional channels, as well as bringing new aftermarket products already available elsewhere, to the centralized location as well.
Going with the theme of a centralized area, I believe these 3 key elements of community manufactured products, quality used replacement parts, and new aftermarket replacement parts into one convenient location will not only make the process of finding and outfitting your machines easier than ever, it'll also educate people about our little community more effectively.
And, maybe it'll inspire someone - perhaps you, to partake and make something that we all need as well.
